Climate in Ukraine

For housing needs, you can stay in a dormitory that costs $50-$100 per month, else rent an apartment. A flat with 1 room costs a rent of $250 per month whereas in Kyiv prices are around $350-450 per month.

The best part is teaching space and lodgings are done in the same residential block mitigating the need for transport. Each University has many dormitories with Kitchens, separate bathrooms and well equipped CCTV cameras and guards for security.

Living costs

To lead a comfortable life in Ukraine, a student should have $1200 to $1500 per year apart from the tuition fees.

Stationary

The cost of stationery is too low in Ukraine when compared to the other countries of the world. For instance, with $2 you can buy around 1000 pages.

Books

The books are generally provided by the University Library (included in tuition fees).

Clothing

Clothing is an important accessory that consumes a lot of budgets. In Ukraine a good pair of Jeans costs $10-20, the Shirts cost $5-15, T-Shirts cost $5-12.

Food

Food is one of the basic necessities of life. In Ukraine the cost of food is reasonable. For instance, at $1.5 you can buy 4 kg of potatoes/onions or 3 litres of milk.

Travel in the city

Students are issued Travel Passes by the Universities and the Government and hence students can travel with concessions in cost. It costs roughly around just $5 a month.

Travel around the country

Apart from domestic travel in Ukraine, students get a 40% discount on the normal fares of Trains and buses when they travel around the country.

International travel

As soon as you get enrolled as a student in Ukraine University, an International student card is issued which guarantees a student a concession of 30% on the normal airfares.

Steps to be followed in applying for Universities in Ukraine

Admission requirements

In order to receive an invitation from the Universities, you need the following documents:

  • Application form filled online.
  • Passport
  • Legalized copy of SSC certificate
  • Fees paid confirmation receipt

    In addition to the above, Postgraduate students require the following documents.
  • Copy of project work
  • Bachelor’s degree certificates
  • Results and progress reports

    All of the above documents need to be notarized and translated into the Ukrainian language.

Visa Requirements

The student visa is generally granted for one year. Following documents are needed to obtain the visa.

  • Passport
  • Original invitation letter
  • A confirmation letter to the Ukrainian consulate in your country from the University.
  • Contract copy
  • Health insurance
  • AIDS certificate
  • Two-way air ticket
  • 3 photographs (3*4 cm)
  • Official bank document confirming payment of fees.

In addition to the above, students obtaining admission in the first year to the preparatory faculty need to submit the following documents.

You will need the following documents notarized and get the same certified by the notary from the Ukrainian Embassy in your country. It should be translated into Russian or Ukrainian language.

  • HSC certificate
  • Health certificate
  • HIV certificate
  • 15 passport size (3*4 cm) photographs - matt finish.

  • Original invitation letter
  • All original school or college certificates translated into Russian or Ukrainian language and notarized.

Post application you will be sent an invitation by the Ukrainian university which will be helpful to you in securing the visa.

Work Permit

Foreign citizens can be employed by an individual or company upon fulfilment of the following conditions.

  • The employer has to secure the work permit.
  • A general work permit is not issued, it is specific to particular employment.
  • Employment agreement in writing.
  • Temporary residence permit agreement made by the employee.

What is the minimum salary for foreign citizens employed in Ukraine?

  • Five minimum wages for NGO employees, Educational institutions and charity institutions.
  • Ten ‘minimum wages’ for all other types of employees.
  • The above criteria do not apply to the below mentioned ‘preferred categories of employees’
  • IT professionals
  • An employee who is also a shareholder of the company.
  • Persons who have degrees from the top 100 Universities of Ukraine.
